The Bento theme can show images in two different ways:

Image Overlay Mode (default)

In the Overlay Mode mode, the feature images are shown as overlays, which stretch the image to the whole tile. These images are slightly darkened to improve the readability of the text. On mouse hover, the image lightens to the default value.

🖼️
Overlay Mode is recommended when your site uses photographic images like those from Unsplash.

Even if using an Image Overlay Mode, you can override specific posts to show their feature images in a Contained mode. Please refer to the chapter Special Tags for more information.

Contained Mode

In the Contained Mode, the feature images are contained within the tile. These images are rendered as they are and are not darkened.

💡
Contained Mode is recommended when your site uses vector graphics with a transparent background and aspect ratio 2:1 (W:H).

To switch to Contained Mode, please go to Site → Design & branding → Site wide and turn off the "Image overlay mode" settings.

🏷️
To make the images more prominent, you can hide all labels such as tags, featured icon, and member-only icon. To do so, please go to Site → Design & branding → Site wide and turn off the "Hide labels" settings. By default, all labels are shown.

Even if using a Contained Mode, you can override specific posts to show their feature images in an Image Overlay Mode. Please refer to the chapter Special Tags for more information.
